Oh the Delay!

Can you believe it? We, all 14 students and one professor, got to the airport yesterday, packed for international travel, and what is happening? Nothing. Absolutely nothing was happening or going to happen. The line to the counter was backed up past all the ropes and extending towards the automatic doors. Our professor, was pale faced and on the phone with the travel agents from the second I spotted him.

"Blimey! This is not looking good" I thought to myself. I did not even think to check the flight status because the weather was gorgeous here, with blue skies and a nice spring temperature. But little did I know that the weather in Chicago, where we were to fly out of the country and into Dublin, shut down the airport. "Awwwwwwww Maaaaaaaaann!" this can't be happening!!! Oh but it is happening, the European trip is now delayed.

To make matters worse because we have such a large group all flying at once, we cannot get on a plane until this Sunday.---- 4 long days away. Well since we are delaying the trip we will be adding a couple days at the end, but when all is said and done the trip was going to exactly 3 three days stays in each, Dublin, Belfast, and Sligo, with of course the two days of flight time & travel. Now the trip will be shortened by at least one day in Belfast, most likely.
C'mon! Where is this "luck o' the Irish" or is it a misnomer I just was misunderstanding my whole life.

Sadly, I wait in limbo. Yearning for my time in Ireland. I am so ready to step foot on Irish soil and se the coastline of Ireland looking back towards America. Why can't it be now?!

Ireland or I an gonna Die!

It's only 6 days until I leave for Ireland with my Celtic Literature class. It feels like time is just dragging by and May 25th will never come. I know it will, but I'm just am so excited to see Dublin, Belfast, and Sligo.

As a school group we have the literary pretense of learning on the 12 day trip, surely I will learn a lot about Irelands poets, writers, and literary artist, but most of the excitement stems from my desire to connect with the motherland for the first time in my life.

My self perceived thoughts of myself have always had Irish feelings. My ethnic heritage is supposedly Scottish, English, German, and Irish. I wish to just forget the first three and focus solely on my Irish heritage, since that is how I think of my self more and ways. Even my last name, Rowan, sounds and feels so very Irish to me. It's a tree that grows in the United Kingdom and the surrounding European countries and is said to have magical properties.

All I can say now is that I am SO EXCITED to GO TO IRELAND!!!!!

Thanks for reading my thoughts,
Harley Rowan

Please give me any comments or any suggestions on things I should see while in Belfast , Dublin, or  Sligo.
